About Blue Compass

Our Guiding Principles

Jewish professionals across secular nonprofits have faced rising antisemitism, isolation, and uncertainty. Blue Compass was founded to meet this moment — to connect, support, and empower Jewish professionals so they can thrive, lead, and contribute fully to the sector.

We are a diverse community of Jews with a wide range of identities, beliefs, and experiences. We include Jews of color, Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrahi Jews, and those with varied relationships to Judaism and Israel. This diversity is our strength and reflects the global story of the Jewish people.

1

Connection and Belonging

We create inclusive spaces where Jewish professionals can connect authentically, share experiences, and find mutual support and understanding.

2

Compassion and Respect

We listen with empathy, speak with care, and honor the dignity and complexity of every person in our community.

3

Courage and Dialogue

We engage with honesty and curiosity, embracing difficult conversations and holding space for multiple truths.

4

Clarity and Integrity

We distinguish between the actions of governments and the lived experiences of individuals. Critique is welcome; bigotry of any kind is not.

5

Affirmation of Jewish Peoplehood and Human Rights

We affirm the Jewish people's right to safety and self-determination in our ancestral homeland, including Israel's right to exist as a democratic Jewish state. We recognize that all people — including Palestinians, Israelis, Arabs, and Jews — deserve safety, dignity, and self-determination.

6

Bridge Building and Shared Responsibility

We believe that antisemitism, like all forms of hate, thrives in division. We reject false choices that force solidarity for one people at the expense of another. We commit to building bridges across lines of difference and to working for a nonprofit sector rooted in integrity, inclusion, and shared purpose.

7

Zero Tolerance for Hate or Harassment

Antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, or any form of bigotry will not be tolerated in Blue Compass spaces. We are collectively responsible for maintaining an environment grounded in respect and mutual support.
